How do you find something new to say about a band thatās been around for 60 years?
For authors Mark Arnold and Charles Rosenay, the answer was comic books!
Although theyād known of each other for decades, the two didnāt actually connect until the pandemic, when they began doing commentaries about The Beatles, The Monkees, and other music favorites. A friendship developed, and eventually they decided to collaborate on a book.
The challenge? Finding something about The Monkees that hadnāt already been explored.
Charles had an extensive collection of Monkees comic books, Mark had a handful, and an idea was born!
In a recent interview on WGCHās āMeet the Beatles,ā Mark also discusses how public appreciation for The Monkees has changed over the years, from their MTV-fueled resurgence in the 1980s to the release of their 2016 album, Good Times!
If youāre a Monkees fan, this is a fun conversation worth checking out!
